Psilocybin Mushrooms: Identifying the Profile of the Most Likely Users

As we see an increase in the cost of and decrease in access to healthcare in the United States, many individuals are searching for ways to “self-medicate”. While scientific literature on the effectiveness of psilocybin as a treatment for mental and physical health concerns is limited, evidence of use for these purposes may show a need for further research. The public consciousness around psilocybin mushrooms is generally that psilocybin mushrooms are primarily taken for recreational use, possibly lending to the widespread prohibition in the United States. Drawing a connection between previously diagnosed physical and mental issues, psilocybin mushroom use, and access to heathcare may be able to more clearly identify the need for further research into “magic mushrooms” as a legitimate medicine.
